Michelle, therapist, at the beach

Hi, I’m so glad that you’ve found your way here! Taking the step to reach out for support is so important, and finding a therapist who feels like the right match can make that step feel even more worthwhile.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS), an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), and a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP). I would also describe myself as a neurodiversity-affirming, identity-based therapist who specializes in working with ADHD and autistic clients. I’ve spent nearly 25 years in the mental health field supporting children, teens, adults, and families, including many years as a high school social worker, an experience that continues to shape how I connect with and support my clients.

My connection to this work is both professional and personal. I received my ADHD diagnosis later in life while helping my young adult daughter pursue her own evaluation. I eventually learned that I’m autistic as well while attending a training with an amazing professional, whom I later sought out to continue learning from. Learning as much as possible about neurodivergence is definitely one of my special interests! Navigating these personal diagnoses, and parenting a neurodivergent child, has given me a firsthand understanding of many of the questions, challenges, and adjustments that can come with learning more about how your brain works, as well as the powerful yet complicated experience of looking back at your life and understanding the “why” of so many things. Because of this, I strive to create a therapy space that feels relaxed, welcoming, and safe, where you can show up as yourself and we can process through the exhaustion, burnout, and emotional impact that can come from years of masking or feeling pressure to fit expectations. We will do all of this while helping you to learn more about your diagnosis, learn ways to cope, and while working towards a life that feels more authentic, sustainable, and supportive of who you are.

Many of the clients I work with have spent years feeling misunderstood in therapy or misdiagnosed, often feeling that they have had to work twice as hard just to keep up and advocate for themselves in school or at work, as well as in medical and mental health settings. Therapy with me should feel different. My goal is to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are, no masking and no sense that something about you needs to be “fixed”. Come as you are, stim if you’d like, get up and pace if that helps you to focus while we talk, feel safe to unmask. The therapy “room” should be a nonjudgmental and affirming space for you to be you. I believe you are the expert of your own experiences, and we’ll work as a team to find ways to manage day-to-day life that supports your energy, focus, and regulation.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my daughter going to so many concerts, we love music and concerts. My husband and I enjoy finding random craft fairs on the weekends, or maybe I enjoy them and he just humors me because he knows I love them so much. On my own, I can’t get enough of documentaries. I watch so many about just about anything, but the true crime ones are my favorites. As a family, we enjoy going to the beach together as much as possible. The beach is my happy place, where everything is calm and quiet and life resets. Taking intentional time to step away, recharge, and care of yourself is so important, I try to incorporate that into my practice and remind my clients of this as well.
